Georgetown RISE celebrated the successful conclusion of the first semester of interns serving Georgetown County at the headquarters of the Bunnelle Foundation.
Georgetown RISE partnered with Sustain Coastal to spread awareness of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the 2018 Earth Fair hosted on Prince Lawn at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). All participating organizations/vendors were linked to (at least) one of the 17 goals and asked to discuss their contribution to visitors, students, and faculty.
On February 15, David Helvarg, the founder of Blue Frontier Campaign, spoke at CCU; Helvarg is a nationally-known journalist, author and ocean advocate. The event was hosted by Coastal Conservation League, the SC Wildlife Federation and Coastal Carolina University’s United Nations Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development Georgetown.
A town in our neighboring county, Surfside Beach, has officially approved the ban on single-use plastic bags. The ban will be effective on June 1st. View the letter to the editor here.
